Basket Index is a public data site. It has no accounts, sells nothing, and has no reason to know who you are. This page says exactly what it stores.
Your basket. If you use My Basket, the quantities you enter — and the income and pay-change figures, if you type them — are saved in your browser's local storage. They are never sent to us. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
A price snapshot. To show what changed since your last visit, your browser also keeps the unit prices as they stood when you last saw a release. It holds no quantities, no totals and no income, and it never leaves your device.
Two cookies. bi-region remembers the region you chose. bi-geo holds a two-letter state code derived once from your connection, so the first page you see is about where you are. Neither carries an identifier; both expire after 180 days.
Page views, through Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not build a profile of you.
A small number of product events — which region was picked, whether a basket was completed, whether a chart was shared. Every one carries only categories and counts. None carries an email address, a name, a ZIP code, an income, a pay figure, a basket total, or anything you typed.
Your email address, only if you give it to us for the newsletter, along with the interests and region you select and which page you signed up from. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing is honoured immediately.
To leave the newsletter, use the unsubscribe link in any issue or email hello@basketindex.org. To remove what is stored on your device, clear this site's data in your browser — we cannot do it for you, because we cannot see it.
