A dated, sourced answer to “what does a basket of everyday essentials cost here, and how has that changed?” for one US state (or the Dallas–Fort Worth area, modelled) — assembled from the same federal data this site publishes, with every figure traced to its national source series and the adjustment used to localise it.
One document, emailed to you two ways: a print-ready PDF and the underlying monthly series as CSV.
People who need a defensible local cost figure with a citation attached, and who would otherwise spend half a day assembling it from BLS, Census, BEA and HUD.
A dated figure for your state you can quote, with the series ID in the footnote.
Cost context for a grant application, board paper or needs assessment.
How a modelled essentials basket in your state compares with the states you compete with.
A cost baseline for a plan, with its limits written down so nobody over-reads it.
You do not have to. Everything the brief is built from is published free on this site and in the open API, and quoting Basket Index with attribution is free and always will be. If you have the time, build it yourself — the methodology is complete enough to reproduce.
What you are buying is the assembly: your geography and household picked out, the comparisons priced, the provenance table built, the caveats written for the specific figures in front of you, and a document you can hand to an editor or a board without doing that work yourself. There is no premium dataset behind this and there never will be — a paid tier that hides numbers would make the free product worse, which is the opposite of the point.
$149 for one geography, +$99 for each additional place compared on the same order.
Ordering means you accept the terms of sale — delivery within two business days, and a full refund if the brief cannot answer your question.
Payment is handled by Stripe on their own checkout page — no card details reach this site. Your configuration travels with the order, so we know exactly which geography, household and comparisons you asked for.
We build and send the brief within two business days, to the email address you give Stripe. Early briefs are assembled with a human reading them before they go out; that is deliberate while we learn what people actually need, and it is why the first version is not instant.
If the brief cannot answer your question honestly — the data does not reach your metro, or the figure you need is one we do not publish — we will say so and refund you rather than send something that does not hold up.
Not what you need? Tell us what you are trying to do — that is how we decide what to publish next.
